Position Summary
The ENHANCE Laboratory in the Departments of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a Temporary Research Specialist to support translational biomedical ultrasound and human physiology research projects.
This position will combine hands-on experimental research support with laboratory operational management responsibilities. The selected candidate will assist with ultrasound-based data acquisition in laboratory, preclinical and human subject studies, support experimental setup and troubleshooting, coordinate research logistics, maintain laboratory equipment and inventories, assist with trainee onboarding and supervision, and support day-to-day laboratory operations across multiple federally funded projects.
The position may also involve: support for hyperbaric and decompression physiology studies, ultrasound system setup and maintenance, data organization and quality control, conference and research coordination activities, fabrication or prototyping of experimental components, and coordination across collaborating institutions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
- Prior laboratory or research experience
- Experience with biomedical ultrasound systems and instrumentation, or human subject research studies.
- Experience with programming, data processing, experimental automation, or scientific data analysis workflows (e.g., MATLAB or Python).
- Experience with laboratory coordination, operational responsibilities, or research logistics support.
- Experience contributing to scientific communication activities such as conference presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, or technical reports.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
- Ability to safely move and set up research equipment and materials weighing up to 30 pounds with or without accommodation.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during experiments with or without accommodation.
