Job Summary:
Join the Colorado School of Public Health as a Research Specialist (Open Rank Research Services Entry - Intermediate Professional). This position is a key member of the school's Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity & Diabetes (LEAD) Center that will work to implement the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Study protocols.
Key responsibilities include overseeing daily operational tasks, such as scheduling and conducting in-person and remote study visits; coordinating, obtaining, and processing biospecimen collections; administering surveys; performing data entry; and carrying out quality assurance activities.
The Research Specialist will also assist with preparing and mailing biospecimen collections to designated laboratories and coordinating participant travel when needed to support study visit attendance. Strict compliance with IRB rules, regulations, and guidance is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect blood samples and physical measurements including weight, height, and other diet and physical activity measures.
- Administer health-related questionnaires to study participants.
- Collect and enter data from visit forms into a secure electronic database.
- Coordinate scheduling and logistics of study visits and program events.
- Support participant engagement through outreach and communication.
- Participate in study-related travel and offsite clinic events as needed.
- Document, organize, and synthesize data collection procedures outlined in the manual of operations.
- Quality assurance activities including resolution of data edits.
- Assemble and mail out data & biospecimen collection kits to study participants.
This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position that reports to the ECHO Study Project Manager.
Work Location: Onsite - This role is expected to work onsite and is located at the CU Anschutz Campus in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:
Entry Level
A bachelor's degree in biological sciences, health/medical research, public health, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
Intermediate Level
A bachelor's degree in biological sciences, health/medical research, public health, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
1 year of professional level experience in a clinical research setting working directly with patients/study participants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with pregnant women, infants and children.
- Working knowledge of epidemiology, environmental health, or chronic diseases, such as obesity and diabetes.
- EMT or phlebotomy certification
- Technical laboratory skills and experience in biospecimen processing
- Bilingual English and Spanish speaking
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Interest in learning phlebotomy and specimen processing.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Demonstrated experience in fostering a community that values a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
Anticipated Salary Range:
Entry professional: $50,000 - $55,000
Intermediate professional: $51,000 - $64,000
