Job Summary:
The overall responsibility of this position will be assisting researchers with experiments/projects and colony management of rodents under moderate supervision. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently are essential. Organization and attention to detail are imperative skills for success in this position.
- This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Key Job Responsibilities:
- Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
- Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
- Colony management of rodents
- Performs literature reviews and writes reports
- Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
- Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
- Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
Department:
School of Medicine and Public Health, Biomedical Research Model Services, Mouse Breeding Research
BRMS is based in the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. BRMS provides animal husbandry, breeding, research services and operational support to the UW-Madison animal use researchers. The animal program involves all aspects of animal use for research, teaching, and outreach. The BRMS Rodent Breeding Core and Research Services Core provides research support across all animal programs on campus. The Breeding Core breeds over 700 strains of mice and rats. Staff commonly breed mice for specific projects, perform studies, and deliver end point tissues and data. Support ranges from a small portion of study to a complete study with final results.
Compensation:
The starting salary for the position is $48,000 annually, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of experience in a biomedical research setting
- Experience working both collaboratively and independently
- Demonstrated experience with accurate record keeping and compliance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with rodents, including breeding colonies and tail vein injections.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred; focus in a biomedical or animal related field preferred
