Research Strategy & Development Manager
Job Description:
(HEO8) $114,151 to $128,065 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.
Fixed-term, full-time position available for 3 years.
The Research Strategy & Development Manager plays a key role in supporting and advancing the research and strategic goals of the Australian Institute for Machine Learning.
This position bridges research development and strategic operations, guiding researchers through the full research lifecycle while contributing to broader strategic initiatives and policy engagement.
This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive, strategic thinker who thrives in a dynamic, intellectually rich environment. The role offers involvement in diverse aspects of research - from identifying funding and supporting grant applications to managing strategic partnerships and enabling real-world impact. Working closely with researchers, industry, and policy stakeholders, the successful candidate will help shape the Institute’s research direction and innovation agenda. The position also provides exposure to cutting-edge AI research and the chance to influence policy and strategic planning in a rapidly evolving field.
This role is ideal for a collaborative and curious professional with strong project management skills and a passion for research impact. It involves close engagement with senior academics, university service teams, and external partners, offering both operational responsibility and strategic influence. A growth mindset and interest in emerging research, Artificial Intelligence and technology trends are highly valued.
To be successful you will need:
- Experience in a research support, strategic, or development role in a research-intensive environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and contribute to team-based initiatives.
- Strong organisational and analytical skills, with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset.
- A willingness to engage with strategic and policy discussions related to research, AI, and emerging technologies.
- An enthusiasm for learning and a genuine interest in research and innovation, particularly in artificial intelligence.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
