Position Summary: This position is a technician in the Department of Plant Biology, University of Georgia, Athens to aid in research of genome engineering and plant-microbe synthetic biology in the Grome lab, and to assist in day-to-day lab managerial tasks.
Duties/Responsibilities: The candidate will assist the PI, graduate students, and other trainees with performing experiments in plant biology, microbiology, molecular biology, and synthetic biology. General protocols will include: preparing chemical reagents, designing bacterial and eukaryotic expression constructs, plasmid assembly and cloning, assembling/purifying DNA for genomic, amplicon, and plasmid sequencing, transforming plants & microbes with constructs, tissue culturing of engineered plants, collecting/analyzing genomic, protein, & metabolomic samples, if the candidate desires, there could be opportunities to write and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts. (60%)
The candidate will perform basic laboratory support functions including: routine preparation of growth media, maintaining algal cultures, setup/maintenance of research equipment, washing dishes and operating autoclave, maintaining general lab cleanliness/organization. (30%)
The candidate will assist with routine ordering of laboratory supplies and assist the supervisor in administrative tasks, including shipping and receiving. (10%)
