Position Summary
This multi-year, grant-funded Research Technician is responsible for providing direct support for teaching and research activities in Genomic Data Science. Strong bioinformatic and molecular biology skills are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the development and evaluation of educational modules in Genomic Data Science
- Support troubleshooting and be a resource person for faculty and students
- Support research project involving molecular biology and bioinformatic components
- Collect data and manage the storage of collected data. This will include developing and maintaining databases of activities for reporting, publishing and tracking purposes.
- Collaborates with PIs to develop yearly budget reports and annual program activity reports to submit via agency online system.
- Maintains project budget, order supplies, and monitor expenditures for program activities;
- Supervising undergraduate research students;
- Maintain equipment.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Biology or related field and research experience in bioinformatics or computational biology is required.
This position requires proficiency with laboratory processes and general molecular biology techniques. The ability to document experimental protocols and results is required.
The incumbent must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. The ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals is a plus. Additionally, the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other employees, and managers is necessary.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Duties may include producing correspondence, memos, and e-mails, creating spreadsheets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: walk, sit, use hands to handle office and lab supplies, operate computer and other office and lab equipment, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to: stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to: stoop or climb, lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.
