Job Title: Research Technician
Department: Veterinary Medicine | Veterinary Preventive Medicine
The College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University is seeking applications for a Research Technician. An individual in this position manages studies targeted at understanding infectious disease on the animal side of the human-animal interface. This individual will also be responsible for managing logistical items including but not limited to schedules, compliance documentation, protocols, and travel tables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize, test samples to evaluate the epidemiology and transmission of influenza A viruses in animal populations.
- Assist with the management of sample collection, testing, and data entry.
- Properly keep track of and update compliance documentation and online protocols.
- Assist with generating weekly tasks to assist with workflow, review COA’s, and produce travel tables for various projects of the laboratory.
- Compile records of training logs.
- Assist with the composition and review of grants.
- Assist with writing and publishing manuscripts.
- Ability to lead one or multiple student research assistants through experimentation, tasks on a given day.
Nonessential Responsibilities:
- Maintain inventories of reagents, chemicals, and biological materials and work with laboratory manager to address needs of said products.
- Assist with the occasional training of students on certain laboratory tasks.
Physical Requirements:
- Bench work
- Potential for assisting with field work at livestock shows
- Ability to lift 25 lbs
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience working in a research laboratory
- Previous experience with a lab information management system
- Demonstrates effective organizational skills
- Demonstrates GLP, Aseptic Technique, and other research techniques
- Previous experience with research compliance systems
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point
Desired Qualifications:
- Influenza A virus research experience
- Previous experience in working with and training others on protocols, processes in laboratory settings
- Experience with statistical analysis software
- Grant writing
- Writing and publishing papers in scientific journals
Target Salary Range: $15.86 - $20.74 per hour; commensurate with experience, internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
