Position Highlights
A Research Technician II position is available in the Department of Child Health in Phoenix Children Research Institute at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. The candidate will have the opportunity to engage in scientific support for an ongoing lab project, in collaboration with other members of the lab. The successful applicant will be well-rounded enthusiastic individual with basic training in biomedical science and experience performing research in a laboratory setting. This individual should be detailed oriented, conscientious, and able to follow instructions, and have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain and operate laboratory instrumentation, perform established experimental procedures, and support research projects related to novel nanoparticle-based gene therapies targeting transcription factors involved in pulmonary diseases and injury. The position requires general knowledge to aid in studies that result in publications within critically reviewed scientific journals.

Duties & Responsibilities
- With supervision, organize and perform a variety of lab tests and procedures in support of R&D activities; includes recording results, making observations, collecting and compiling data for analysis, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Assist in the development of novel nanoparticle-based gene therapies targeting transcription factors involved in pulmonary diseases and injury.
- Collaborate with physician-scientists, postdocs, and MD-PhD students on translational research projects aimed at identifying potential FDA-approved drug candidates and novel therapeutics.
- Participate with the laboratory team in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative results.
- Conduct in vivo studies in mouse models, including delivery of nanoparticle-based gene therapy, lung tissue harvesting, RNA extraction, and precision lung slice preparation.
- Provides routine and technical administrative support to research projects.
- Assist in data analysis from ongoing experiments and provide an additional opinion regarding the validity of data obtained.
- Adapt physical data to computerized statistical data for further analysis.
- Create and manage laboratory-shared spreadsheets for ongoing studies to simplify the sharing of data between lab staff.
- Manage breeding colonies and experimental controls for transgenic mouse models to investigate gene function in pulmonary development and disease.
- Support cell culture studies: maintain cell lines, perform transfections, and engineer inducible reporter systems to study gene stability and expression.
- Facilitate the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment via self-repair or company repair.
- Under senior researchers' supervision, perform molecular biology techniques including bacterial culture, DNA extraction (minipreps/maxipreps), qPCR, Western blotting, immunocytochemistry, luciferase assays, and flow cytometry. Assist in experimentation and animal studies.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science or related field.
- Previous research experience (internship, independent study).
- Experience with animal studies.
