Position Highlights

The College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry is leading the effort to understand, diagnose, treat, and prevent psychiatric disorders, prepare future clinicians, provide state-of-the-art care, and give direction to community efforts to improve behavioral health. We are looking to hire a Research Technician II to assist in executing study recruitment, collection procedures, analysis, and reporting to fit specific research requirements.

William "Scott" Killgore, PhD, is a Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience that joined the University of Arizona July 1, 2014. He brings an active research program from Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital, including his Social, Cognitive, and Affective Neuroscience (SCAN) Laboratory. The Lab is devoted to the study of emotional intelligence, PTSD, mTBI, stress and related conditions. Dr. Killgore's innovative work is funded by the Department of Defense, and recent research focuses on effects of prolonged sleep deprivation, chronic sleep restriction, and the use of stimulant countermeasures on the cognitive-affective systems within the brain.

This is a sleep deprivation study so overnight and weekend shifts may occasionally be required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collect computerized behavioral data from research participants during study appointments. Maintain highly detailed records, organize data, prepare data for computer input, and record computer output.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with study participants. Carry out study advertising and recruitment activities. Screen applicants, ensuring they meet appropriate criteria, and make independent judgment as to their eligibility to participate in the research study.
  • Maintain records, logs, notes, and spreadsheets to facilitate data analysis. Participate in preparing research experimental reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative results to facilitate data analysis.
  • Assist with preparation and submission of quarterly and annual reports to granting agencies to ensure accuracy and precision in reporting.
  • Apply scalp electrodes for polysomnography/EEG studies. Monitor polysomnography and EEG signals during sleep.
  • Assist with MRI data collection sessions and ensure collection of quality data during neuroimaging scans. Assist in MRI data processing and analysis. Administer and score psychological and neurocognitive tests under the supervision of senior staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to administer psychological batteries or neuropsychological tests.
  • Knowledge of human subjects screening and recruitment procedures.
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment.
