Research Technician
Job Summary
Research within the lab focuses upon the differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells into various neural lineage cells for in vitro disease modeling. As such, candidates for this position will conduct a wide range of experiments in cellular reprogramming to generate new lines of induced pluripotent stem cells, as well as differentiation into neurons and astrocytes. This laboratory is under the direction of Principle Investigator (PI), Jason Meyer, PhD.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Performs experimental techniques or procedures: Cell culture (human stem cell lines), including cellular reprogramming and astrocyte differentiation; Cell biology (ex. flow cytometry & histology); Microscopy (ex. confocal and multiphoton microscopy); Molecular biology (ex. DNA and RNA, including cloning); Gene editing (CRISPR/Cas9)
- Orders for laboratory
- Maintains equipment and laboratory
- Performs regulatory procedures/protocols (ex. IACUC, IRB, chemical safety, radiation safety, and controlled substances)
- Serves as a resource to other laboratory personnel
- Participates in the tabulation and computation of project results
- Prepares project research reports/analyses
- Provides some guidance and support to junior-level staff
- Prepares reports and conducts analyses of performed experiments
General Responsibilities
- Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results
- Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments
- Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed
- Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training
- Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management
- May train junior-level staff
- May help plan experiments or short-term goals
