Essential Job Duties:

The Field and Crop Production Technician plays a vital role in advancing sustainable agriculture and hands-on student learning. This position splits its time between managing crop production at the Fike Agronomy Field Lab (50%) and supporting operations at the Sustainable Agricultural Systems Unit (SASU) and Agroecology Education Farm (50%).

In this role, you will manage crop demonstration plots, maintain infrastructure and equipment, and help ensure efficient daily operations. Just as importantly, you'll share your expertise with students-supporting professors in the field and leading workshops that provide real-world agricultural skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage crop production and long-term demonstration plots at the Fike Agronomy Field Lab.
• Support operations at SASU and the Agroecology Education Farm, including infrastructure upkeep, grounds maintenance, and equipment management.
• Train and mentor student interns in sustainable farming practices.
• Collaborate with faculty by maintaining demonstration plots that enhance classroom teaching.
• Deliver hands-on learning through workshops and practicums (e.g., calibrating seed drills, measuring plant health, assessing seeding depth).

Minimum Experience/Education:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience operating and maintaining farming equipment.
• Willingness to obtain NC pesticide license and learn new agronomic skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a field setting.
• Ability to communicate and actively engage with faculty, staff, and students.

Required license or certification:

• A valid NC Driver's License and the ability to obtain an NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
• A valid Driver's License must be maintained throughout employment.
