Research Technician- MCG-Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine

Job Summary

Assist with research involving transgenic mouse models to study Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric conditions, and microbiome interactions (e.g., feeding special diets, administrating pharmacological drugs to mice, weighting mice, and animal behavioral tests). Assist mouse breeding colonies. Maintains files on research and assists with data entry. Maintains well organized sample collection and processing logs. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning. Assist sample processing by microtome/cryostat sectioning. Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments, and assays including collection of data. Preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist research involving transgenic mouse models to study Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric conditions, and microbiome interactions (e.g., feeding special diets, administrating pharmacological drugs to mice, weighting mice, and animal behavior tests). Collect specimens (e.g., brain, fecal samples) and maintain the organized sample collection and processing logs. Assist sample processing by microtome/cryostat sectioning.
  • Assist and maintain mouse breeding colonies and genotyping.
  • Perform molecular biology experiments such as qRT-PCR, ELISA, western blotting, microscopic, and statistical analysis.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization supplemented by two years of college level work in the physical and/or biological sciences, and experience in performing diagnostic laboratory tests and examinations in the specialized area assigned to work.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Pay Band: B4
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
This position is (fully/partially) funded through external sources. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of these funds.
Recruitment Period: Until Filled.
