Department InformationThe Department of Pediatrics employs nearly 1,000 faculty and staff who work alongside employees of Riley Hospital for Children and students of Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine (IUSM) to make Riley Children's Health Indiana's largest and most skilled pediatric system. The research technician assists the Principal Investigator (PI), within the Wells Center for Pediatric Research and the Ryan White Center for Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Global Health. The Data Lab conducts research on biomarkers and mechanisms underlying brain injury in severe malaria and traumatic brain injury, with laboratory-based research and data analysis conducted at IUSM in Indianapolis. The lab's research profile includes parasite culture, stem cell culture, microscopy, immunofluorescence imaging, Western blot, flow cytometry, single-analyte and bead-based multiplex enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) testing for protein biomarkers, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing, and genotyping; biostatistics and bioinformatics data analysis extending to proteomics, metabolomics, and transcriptomics is a key area of research and will be a central skill set needed for this role in addition to managing day-today lab operations and ensuring the continuity and quality of active projects.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Conducts biostatistics and bioinformatics research data analysis
- Performs laboratory support tasks (inventory management, placing orders, maintaining supplies)
- Provides general research support (documentation, data organization, support for ongoing manuscripts/projects)
- Assists with experimental planning and coordination with graduate trainees
General Responsibilities
- Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results
- Organizes analytical data of performed experiments. May submit findings for publication
- Installs and maintains research equipment
- Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training
- Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management
- Trains junior-level staff
- Plans experiments and short-term goals
- May require travel in order to service various research sites

Advertised Salary$43,000.00 - $48,000.00 annually determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
