Research Technician - Physiology
Job Summary
This position requires the daily performance of a wide variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, and molecular procedures in a basic science research laboratory. The position requires work with small animal models (rodents), including performance of surgical procedures. In addition, the position will conduct experiments and record experimental results in the lab. Responsible for accuracy of results and retesting when appropriate.
Studies are approached with a translational perspective, and the overall goal is to study the molecular mechanisms that regulate blood pressure (BP) and renal health and function in males and females under both physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Experiments include functional measures of blood pressure and vascular function, protein and mRNA expression measures as well as hormone, cell signaling and genetic analyses, among others.
Responsibilities
- Perform research experiments under the direction of the PI, lab manager and/or postdoctoral fellow/s. Record and analyze results of research experiments and procedures.
- Assist with the administrative and technical arrangements of animal models and maintain records related to use, to include: preparing laboratory animals for surgery; performing surgical procedures as instructed; collecting tissue and fluid samples for analysis; and assisting with feeding, watering and general care of the animals (both pre- and post-operative).
- Actively participate in lab meetings, stay apprised of related scientific literature and may assist in publishing of manuscripts.
- Perform clerical duties (copying, faxing, data entry, mail-outs).
- Perform other job-related duties incidental to work described herein.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization supplemented by two years of college level work in the physical and/or biological sciences, and considerable experience in performing diagnostic laboratory tests and examinations in the specialized area assigned to work.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday
Pay Band: B4
Salary Minimum: $17.02 per hour
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
