Research Technician
The LHCb group at Syracuse University Physics Department is seeking to fill two full-time/part time appointments for Research Technicians to work on the R&D towards novel advanced silicon detectors implemented with the HV-MAPs technology. We need to address several system infrastructure challenges that require expertise in assembly and quality assurance of silicon micropattern detectors.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in physics, engineering, or related field.
- Experience in semiconductor static characterization, including wafer probing, clean room procedures, and electronics testing with state-of-the-art test stands.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong background in silicon detector characterization and electronics tests.
Responsibilities:
- Commission and maintain electronics test stand for MAPs sensors used in the LHCb upgrade: write python scripts to take and analyze data, upload firmware provided by collaborators to run the tests, and trouble-shoot data acquisition board, oscilloscope and power sources.
- Carry out electronics testing comprising noise studies and stability of operation under a variety of conditions, including high rates and different temperatures. The tests are performed in the dedicated test stand comprising PC, data acquisition board with dedicated firmware and PCB hosting the MAPs under study.
- Semiconductor laboratory maintenance: the clean room (class 10k) where the measurements take place are monitored routinely for particulate content: the lab technician is responsible for doing the tests, addressing sources of pollution, alerting responsible people on campus, and make sure that proper clean room protocols are followed during lab operation.
- Other duties as assigned.
