The target hiring range for this position will be between $17.05 to $21.31 per hour. The offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary:

This position involves conducting tests and procedures, setting up and operating equipment, recording observations and measurements, and collecting and compiling data in a research lab. It requires a practical understanding of a limited number of standard scientific techniques.

Specific Responsibilities:

Research Responsibilities

  • Follow pre-defined protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, and Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices to conduct standard and repetitive experiments.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting techniques as necessary.
  • Set-up, operate, and maintain standard lab equipment.

Molecular Biology

  • DNA, RNA, protein isolation, purification, and expression.
  • Southern, Northern, and Western blotting.
  • PCR, RT-PCR.
  • Plasmid preparation.
  • Cloning, mapping, and sequencing of DNA.
  • Recombinant virus production and purification.

Cellular Biology

  • Cell culture and cell isolation.
  • Functional studies and transfection.

Histology

  • Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of blocks, and sectioning.
  • Staining and immunohistochemistry.
  • Microscopy.

Immunology

  • Flow cytometry.
  • ELISA, Elispot assay, and cytokine assays.
  • Antibody production and purification.

Animal Research

  • Animal husbandry, breeding, and screening transgenic mice.
  • Dissections and blood collection.
  • Surgical procedures.
  • Database management of colony.

General Lab Duties

  • Record test results and may maintain databases.
  • Complete standard and routine clerical duties, such as copying, filing, data entry, and word processing.
  • Maintain inventory of reagents, mice, and lab supplies.

Miscellaneous

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, along with some basic science courses.
