RESEARCHER ASSISTANT
Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Neurology Chair Office, is seeking a dedicated Researcher Assistant to join the laboratories of Dr. Yacoubian and Dr. Petit. The researcher will work on a collaborative project between the two labs examining mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease. Biophysical, cellular, and in vivo approaches will be used to examine neurodegenerative processes in Parkinson's disease. Duties for the position will involve conducting studies to understand mechanisms of Parkinson's disease using biophysical, cellular, and in vivo models. The candidate will be expected to summarize and analyze data in concert with the lab PI.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Assistant, you will contribute to the daily operations of research projects under the close supervision of experienced researchers. This role involves performing standard research tasks, including sample processing, basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records. Your support will be crucial in helping senior team members execute complex protocols and ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct routine experiments and analyze data under supervision of more senior scientists.
- Laboratory management/maintenance.
- Assist with writing manuscripts or preparing figures for manuscripts or grant applications
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related field OR High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- A desirable candidate will have previous experience in a neuroscience or biochemistry laboratory working with rodent models, including genotyping, sectioning and staining brain tissue and confocal microscopy.
- Other desirable skills include cell culture, biochemical assays, and protein preparation.
- The candidate will be expected to have experience working independently and within a team setting, multiple tools for organization, and excellent communication skills.
