The Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) invites applications for a Researcher (ICP2, MECES 3) position within a research project related to medical engineering, additive manufacturing and biomaterials for bone regeneration.
The successful candidate will join the research activities carried out at the Integrated Manufacturing Building, Science and Technology Park, Tafira Campus, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The position focuses on the development and characterization of advanced 3D-printed scaffolds with piezoelectric ceramic coatings and drug delivery systems for biomedical applications.
Main Responsibilities
The selected candidate will support the development of the following project activities:
A2 – Development and Characterization of 3D-Printed Scaffolds
- Preliminary research on PLA-based 3D-printed scaffolds.
- Optimization of scaffold design, additive manufacturing and characterization processes for subsequent piezoelectric coating and drug delivery applications aimed at bone regeneration.
A3 – Application of Piezoelectric Ceramic Coatings and Drug Delivery Systems
- Optimization of ceramic coating methodologies and process parameters.
- Application and characterization of piezoelectric ceramic coatings on 3D-printed scaffolds.
- Development of drug delivery systems and characterization of ceramic-coated and drug-loaded scaffolds.
A5 – Management, Dissemination and Intellectual Property
- Dissemination and communication activities.
- Intellectual property support.
- Data management and open access activities.

Eligibility criteria
The maximum evaluation score is 100 points. Candidates must obtain at least 50 points to be selected or included in the reserve list.
1. Research and/or Professional Experience (50 points)
Evaluation will consider professional experience through employment contracts in competitive projects related to medical engineering, mechanical engineering and manufacturing processes.
Scoring system: 1 point per month of relevant professional experience.
Supporting documentation required: employment contracts and official employment records.
2. Academic Training (10 points)
Evaluation will consider the average academic grade of the qualifying Master’s degree (Master in Advanced Industrial Technologies and Processes or Master in Industrial Technologies). The academic grade will be converted directly into evaluation points.
Supporting documentation required: official academic transcript showing the average grade.
3. Other Merits (20 points)
- JCR-indexed publications related to medical engineering, mechanical engineering and manufacturing processes (4 points per publication).
- Book chapters related to medical engineering, mechanical engineering and manufacturing processes (2 points per chapter).
- Participation in conferences related to medical engineering, mechanical engineering and manufacturing processes (2 points per participation).
Supporting documentation required: proof of publications, book chapters or conference participation.
4. Interview and/or Practical Assessment (20 points)
If considered necessary by the evaluation committee, the top three candidates obtaining more than 40 points in the previous criteria may be invited to an interview.
Evaluation criteria include:
- Suitability of the candidate’s profile and capacities for the position (maximum 10 points).
- Knowledge of the industrial and research sector related to the project activities (maximum 10 points).
