The Department of Electromechanical Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Engineering is looking for a full-time (100%) researcher in the field of AI-powered camera systems.

Position

• You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis titled: “Design and calibration of AI-powered camera systems for armoured vehicles.”
• The research focuses on probabilistic 3D camera calibration and AI-based threat detection methods, combining simulation, synthetic data generation, and multi-sensor fusion across visible and infrared cameras.
• You will collaborate with industry and defence partners to experimentally validate the developed methods.
• You will help coordinate research project proposals in the field of vision systems and image processing for defence applications and contribute to acquiring external funding.
• You will support ongoing imaging projects with industrial partners and co-supervise Master’s students.

Profile

• You hold a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science, or you will have obtained it by the start date.
• Only candidates with the nationality of an EU or NATO member state are eligible to apply.
• You have knowledge of machine learning for computer vision.
• Hands-on experience with image acquisition systems and camera technologies (e.g., visible, infrared, RGB-D) is highly valued.
• You can demonstrate excellent academic results.
• You have strong communication skills and are fluent in spoken and written English.
• You are able to work both independently and collaboratively, and you act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity, and teamwork.
• Your research profile aligns with the faculty and university research policies.
