The Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) invites applications for a Researcher position (ICP2 – Master's degree or equivalent, MECES 3) within the research line "Hyperspectral Image Processing and Integrated Systems for Implementation."
The position is associated with the research project:
"Predictive System for the Presence of Environmental Residues and Corrosion on the Surface of Photovoltaic Modules and Structural Systems of Photovoltaic Plants through Automatic Thermal and Hyperspectral Image Processing (SIROCO)"

The project is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades) and has an execution end date of 1 December 2027.
The selected researcher will join the Instituto Universitario de Microelectrónica Aplicada (IUMA) and will contribute to the completion of Work Package A4 – Development of the corrosion detection methodology, specifically Task T4.4 – Development of a multispectral camera for corrosion detection in metallic structures.
The position focuses on the development, training and validation of artificial intelligence algorithms for multispectral image processing, with the objective of detecting, identifying and quantifying corrosion on metallic surfaces using the multispectral camera developed within the SIROCO project.
Main Responsibilities
The selected candidate will contribute to the technical and research activities of the SIROCO project, including:
- Developing artificial intelligence algorithms for multispectral image processing.
- Training and validating AI models for the detection of corrosion on metallic surfaces.
- Detecting, identifying and quantifying corrosion using multispectral imaging.
- Contributing to the development and completion of the corrosion detection methodology.
- Working with the multispectral camera developed within the SIROCO project.
- Processing and analysing multispectral image data.
- Supporting the development and validation of technological solutions for photovoltaic installations.
- Maintaining clear and detailed technical documentation of the work carried out.
- Preparing documentation required for the project's internal technical reports.
- Contributing to the scientific and technological objectives of the SIROCO project.

Benefits
Contract type: Permanent position linked to a research line/project.
Initial project funding: The first three months of the contract will be financed through project CPP2023-010858.
Working hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
Working schedule: Monday to Friday, 08:00–15:30.

Monthly gross salary: €1,886.85.
Additional salary supplements may be awarded, subject to the availability of funding within the project:
- Technical complexity of the work – Level 3: €500.

Applicants must meet the following specific requirements:
- English language proficiency: minimum B1, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- Knowledge of Python programming.
- Knowledge of JavaScript.
- Practical experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning or deep learning, in academic or business environments.
- Training or experience in physics or physical principles relevant to multi/hyperspectral sensors will be considered.
- Experience or training in technology transfer, entrepreneurship, research results valorisation or commercial product development will be considered.

Eligibility Criteria
The selection process has a maximum score of 100 points, distributed as follows:
1. Research and/or Professional Experience – Maximum 10 points
Assessment will consider:
Scientific publications
- Articles related to Artificial Intelligence and Hyperspectral Technology published in prestigious international journals: 10 points per article, up to a maximum of 10 points.
Conference participation
- Scientific articles related to Artificial Intelligence and Hyperspectral Technology accepted at prestigious international conferences: 5 points per conference, up to a maximum of 10 points.
Book chapters
- Book chapters related to Artificial Intelligence and Hyperspectral Technology: 2.5 points per chapter, up to a maximum of 5 points.
Supporting documentation: Copy of the first page of each submitted journal article, conference paper or book chapter.
2. Academic Training – Maximum 25 points
Assessment will consider:
- Academic record in the degrees granting access to the position: up to 15 points.
- Accredited training in Physics or physical fundamentals relevant to multi/hyperspectral sensors: up to 10 points.
Supporting documentation:
- Academic transcript.
- Evidence of completed Physics studies or training.
3. Other Merits – Maximum 45 points
The following merits will be assessed:
Python
- Accredited Python courses of 15 hours or more: 5 points per course, up to 10 points.
JavaScript
- Accredited JavaScript courses of 15 hours or more: 5 points per course, up to 10 points.
Practical AI/ML/DL experience
- Practical experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning or deep learning in academic or business environments: 4 points per month, up to 20 points.
Technology transfer and entrepreneurship
- Experience or training in technology transfer, entrepreneurship, research results valorisation or commercial product development: up to 10 points.
Supporting documentation: Certificates of completed courses and documentation proving practical experience or training.
4. Personal Interview and/or Practical Test – Maximum 20 points
The selection process includes an interview and/or practical assessment.
The following aspects will be evaluated:
- Knowledge of hyperspectral technology: 10 points.
- Knowledge of graphical interface development for data presentation: 10 points.
General Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following conditions:
Nationality and Work Authorization
Applicants may be:
- Spanish nationals.

Academic Qualifications

Language Requirement
The specific language requirement for this position is English at B1 level or higher.
Incompatibility Regulations
Applicants must comply with Spanish legislation governing incompatibilities for public employees, particularly Law 53/1984.
Timing of Requirements
All eligibility requirements must be fulfilled by the application deadline and maintained throughout the duration of the contract.
For non-EU applicants, the employment contract may only be formalised once the relevant work permit and visa have been obtained.
Selection process
Documents to be Submitted
Applicants must submit:

- Supporting documentation for all specific requirements and merits claimed during the selection process.
Only merits properly documented within the application period will be evaluated. New merits cannot be submitted after the application deadline.
For foreign qualifications, the corresponding homologation or declaration of equivalence must be provided where required. A receipt proving that the recognition/equivalence procedure has been initiated may be accepted for admission, subject to a favourable final decision before the contract is formalised.
Selection Process
After the application deadline, a provisional list of admitted and excluded candidates will be published, including the reasons for exclusion where applicable.
Excluded candidates will have three working days to correct formal errors in their application. New merits may not be added after the original application deadline.
Once corrections have been resolved, the final list of admitted and excluded candidates will be published. The Selection Committee will then evaluate the applications according to the established criteria and may conduct interviews or practical tests where provided for in the call.
Following the evaluation, a provisional award proposal will be published with candidates ranked according to their scores. Candidates will have three working days to submit allegations. The final award proposal will then be submitted to the competent authority for resolution.

Reserve List
Unsuccessful candidates may be included in a reserve list to cover the position if the initially selected candidate resigns or if the position becomes vacant during the contract period.
Candidates included in the reserve list must continue to meet all the requirements of the call at the time of appointment.
Probationary Period
The contract will be subject to a two-month probationary period, provided that its duration exceeds two months.
Contract Termination
The contract may be terminated due to legally established causes, including insufficient, exhausted or discontinued funding supporting the contract or research line, completion of the specific tasks for which the contract was established, or other causes established under Spanish employment legislation.
In the event of termination, the applicable legal compensation will be 20 days' salary per year worked, or the corresponding proportional amount where the employment period is less than one year.
