RESEARCHER SPECIALIST-H
Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Ophthalmology, is in search of a Part-Time Researcher Specialist who will be participating in an ongoing NIH-funded research project on scleral remodeling in myopia.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Specialist, you will be recognized as an expert in your field, leading specialized research initiatives with a high level of autonomy. This professional-level position entails developing innovative research methodologies, securing external funding, and influencing the strategic direction of research programs. Your role will also involve extensive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, disseminating research findings, and driving technological advancements. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform biomechanical measurements using micro indentation of scleral tissues and inverse finite element simulations of these experiments to extract mechanical material properties.
- Perform and/or assist in animal experiments using tree shrews, in vivo measurements including refraction, biometry, OCT, euthanasia, and tissue collection.
- Preparation data review and writing of manuscripts
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Hourly Range
$29.25 - $34.62
Qualifications
Doctorate degree in a related field OR Master’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Bachelor’s degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 3-D modeling experience is preferred.
