Position Highlights
The University of Arizona's department of Physics invites you to apply to the role of Researcher/Scientist III. The successful candidate in this role conducts and leads research in exotic particle physics as part of the ATLAS experiment, with a focus on jet calibration and performance studies. It involves developing analysis methods, producing and disseminating scientific results through publications and conference presentations, and contributing to the advancement of high-energy physics research. You will also supports the research mission by mentoring students and postdoctoral researchers and collaborating with faculty to maintain tools and resources for ongoing experimental work.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops and conducts research in exotic physics within the ATLAS experiment, including calibration and performance studies.
- Formulates research methods and contributes to the development and implementation of new analysis techniques, tools, and methodologies for detector performance and calibration studies.
- Ensures compliance with collaboration, funding agency, and experimental requirements by coordinating research activities within the ATLAS collaboration framework.
- Prepares and delivers conference presentations and authors scholarly publications based on related research studies.
- Supports ongoing research funded by existing grants and participates in the development and writing of future grant proposals.
- Oversees and supports research projects for undergraduate, graduate students and postdocs.
- Collaborates with faculty and students to develop and maintain tools and resources that support ongoing research activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of high-energy particle physics, including exotic physics searches.
- Knowledge of jet calibration, jet performance analysis, and related data analysis techniques in collider experiments.
- Ability to communicate scientific results effectively.
- Skill in developing and applying advanced data analysis methods.
- Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research within a large international experimental collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics or a related field.
- 3 years of postdoctoral experience.
- 3 or more years of experience at an LHC experiment.
- Strong experience developing analysis software in experimental particle physics.
- Leadership roles in an LHC experiment.
