ResponsibilitiesThe Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC) manages the activities of assigned residence hall(s), ensuring the provision of appropriate authority and leadership that supports students both academically and interpersonally. RHC assists in the training and development of Resident Advisors (RAs). RHCs are designated as Essential Personnel for the purposes of emergency planning and management. The Residence Hall Coordinator reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Coordinates and participates in the planning, development and implementation of educational and special programming for residential students including, but not limited to, healthy living and learning communities.
Provides 24/7 coverage of assigned residence halls and others as required based on the needs of the division; provides evening and weekend coverage; provides on-call coverage during evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Provides supervision and training for Resident Advisors and work-study students; supervisory duties include assigning and reviewing work of others for completeness and accuracy; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; assisting with the selection of new employees; evaluating job performance of subordinates, acting on employee problems; and recommending employee discipline and discharge.
Coordinates opening and closing procedures for residence hall(s); oversees check-in/check-out procedures.
Reports damages to residence hall structures, equipment, furnishings, etc.; requests appropriate maintenance and repair work.
Schedules, attends, facilitates and/or participates in staff meetings and hall council meetings; develops and initiates appropriate actions to address real-time punch lists of all university residential buildings; follows up to ensure maintenance requests are addressed in a timely manner.
Works with the Campus Police to develop a comprehensive safety program for assigned residence hall; responds to residence hall emergencies; conducts fire and emergency drills as scheduled; summons emergency personnel as needed.
Conducts periodic inspections to monitor residence hall cleanliness and safety; requests maintenance and custodial assistance as needed.
Communicates and enforces established standards for student behavior; serves as a role model for professionalism and civility.
Monitors the activities and behavior of students; maintains a living environment conducive to effective academic study and positive social interaction.
Mediates student disputes; provides general counseling and disciplinary action as required; attends and participates in judiciary hearings.
Tracks residence hall expenditures.
Maintains records of residence hall activities, incidents, etc., as required.
Represents the department to parents, guests and members of the University community.
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including disciplinary records and letters, maintenance schedules and records, activity checks, fliers, requisitions, time sheets, incident reports, cab vouchers, monthly reports, health/safety inspections reports, memos, correspondence, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other department heads and employees, subordinates, faculty members, students, parents, guests, community service workers, sales representatives, contractors, and the general public.
Performs general clerical work as required, including entering computer data, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, typing reports and correspondence, etc.
Performs routine housekeeping duties as needed; moves and/or installs room furnishings. Operates a vacuum, wet vacuum, and a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, copier, telephone.
Serves on various campus committees as assigned.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs related duties as required.
QualificationsA minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with one to two years of experience working in Housing and Residence Life, Academic Support, Student Life, or another unit area in Student Affairs. Possess strong analytical and communication skills, sound professional judgment, initiative and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals, including students, faculty, and staff. Experience with Microsoft Office applications and social media platforms. CPR and first aid certification preferred. Some knowledge of event planning, organizational management, and student development theory is preferred. Must be creative, organized and able to multitask, with strong attention to detail and the management of his/her/the university’s time. Candidates must be flexible, have a strong customer orientation, and be able to work well in a collaborative team environment. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered. This position is live-in and candidate must be able to provide day, evening, weekend on-call hours on a flexible and as needed.
