Hopedale Medical Complex is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and team-oriented Resident Assistant / Floor Assistant to support residents at the Commons.
This position plays an important role in helping residents maintain their independence, dignity, comfort, and quality of life while providing assistance in a safe, respectful, and person-centered environment.

Schedule & Compensation
Night Shift: 6:30 p.m.–6:30 a.m.
Night Shift Differential: $2.00 per hour
Weekend Shift Differential: $2.50 per hour
Schedule includes weekends and holidays.
Occasional on-call responsibilities may be required based on staffing and operational needs.
Shift differentials are paid in addition to the employee's base hourly rate and are subject to HMC's applicable payroll and compensation policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Resident Care and Support
Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, grooming, mobility, and other personal care needs.
Promote resident independence while providing assistance appropriate to each resident's needs and abilities.
Provide care in a manner that protects resident dignity, privacy, comfort, and personal preferences.
Respond promptly and appropriately to resident needs and requests.
Assist residents with scheduled wake-up support and other routine needs.
Provide companionship and engage residents in meaningful conversation and activities.
Observe residents for changes in condition, behavior, or overall well-being and promptly report concerns to the appropriate healthcare staff.
Dining and Household Support
Serve meals and assist residents during dining as needed.
Clean and maintain dining areas following meals.
Change resident linens according to established schedules.
Distribute clean towels and other resident supplies.
Assist with maintaining clean, safe, and organized resident and common areas.
Support housekeeping activities as assigned.
Medication and Documentation
Provide medication reminders in accordance with facility policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
Medication administration may only be performed by individuals who are appropriately certified, authorized, and permitted to perform the task within their scope of practice and HMC policy.
Maintain accurate daily logs and documentation of resident activities, observations, and services provided.
Communicate resident needs and concerns to the appropriate members of the care team.
Resident Transportation and Assistance
Escort residents to ancillary services, including laboratory, imaging, therapy, and other services within Hopedale Medical Complex.
Assist residents with safe mobility and transfers within the scope of training and assigned responsibilities.
Follow established safety procedures when assisting or transporting residents.
Customer Service and Communication
Provide courteous, respectful, and compassionate service to residents, families, visitors, and HMC staff.
Answer telephones and assist with basic administrative duties when needed.
Maintain confidentiality and protect resident and patient information in accordance with HIPAA and HMC policies.
Work collaboratively with the Commons team and other healthcare professionals.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
Basic computer and documentation skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a healthcare team.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism when working with residents, families, and staff.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Current CNA certification.
PCA, HHA, or other applicable direct-care certification or training.
Previous experience working with older adults, residents, patients, or individuals requiring assistance with daily living activities.
Previous experience in assisted living, long-term care, hospital, healthcare, or residential care.
Experience working in a team-based healthcare environment.
Willingness to cross-train and work in multiple HMC departments.

Frequently (34–66% of the time): Standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, and assisting residents with mobility and personal care.
Occasionally (11–33% of the time): Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds, assisting with transfers and repositioning, and transporting supplies or equipment.
Ability to safely assist residents with mobility, transfers, toileting, and other activities of daily living within the scope of training and assigned responsibilities.
Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, visitors, and healthcare staff.
Ability to respond appropriately to resident needs and emergency situations.
Work Environment
The primary work location for this position is the Commons, with potential assignments and cross-training opportunities in the Hospital and Nursing Home based on staffing needs and the employee's training and qualifications.
The employee will have frequent interaction with residents, families, visitors, and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The work environment requires compassion, patience, flexibility, teamwork, and the ability to respond appropriately to changing resident needs.
The employee may be exposed to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, cleaning products, and other healthcare-related hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be used in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Background Check and Drug Screen
All HMC employees are required to successfully complete applicable federal and state background checks and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
HMC's drug screening process includes testing for substances prohibited under HMC policy, including cannabis (THC), consistent with applicable law and organizational requirements.
