The Mohawk Valley Community College Dormitory Corporation is seeking a Resident Director. This is a live-on position. This Resident Director (RD) is a full-time professional staff member who plays a key role in managing the daily operations of the 350 resident on-campus community and fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging living-learning environment. The RD provides leadership in Residence Life areas including student staff supervision, community development, conduct, crisis response, housing operations, and student support services. The RD directly oversees approximately 175 undergraduate residents and contributes to the broader goals of the Residence Life Department.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Leadership & Student Support and Development
- Foster an inclusive residential community that supports personal development.
- Provide support and guidance to residents.
- Support and engage students from diverse backgrounds and identities.
- Plan, implement, and assess programming that promotes a positive student experience.
- Develop meaningful relationships with residents and actively monitor their well-being, behavior, and engagement to identify and respond to emerging concerns.
Staff Supervision & Training
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of RAs.
- Conduct regular individual and staff meetings.
- Promote student staff leadership development and community engagement.
Administrative & Operational Duties
- Reside on campus and maintain a visible and accessible presence.
- Provide leadership in RA Recruitment & Hiring.
- Hold a minimum of six (6) office hours per day (adjusted for night/weekend).
- Maintain accurate occupancy records and assist in managing room assignments.
- Assist with building openings and closings, fire drills, key control, and safety inspections.
- Collaborate with Residence Hall Facilities to address facilities concerns.
- Support the summer housing and conference program as needed.
- Utilize housing, incident reporting, and student conduct software (e.g., eRezlife, Maxient).
- Provide leadership on special projects (e.g., RA Training).
Conduct & Crisis Response
- Serve as a Conduct Officer and adjudicate policy violations and conflict resolution in alignment with campus conduct procedures.
- Educate residents about community standards and responsible citizenship.
- Provide on-call crisis response (alternate weekday/weekend coverage, 24 hours):
- Serve as "Director on Duty" to supervise Residence Halls operations, ensure student safety, and respond to emergencies.
Collaboration & Campus Involvement
- Cultivate strong partnerships with Public Safety, Counseling, Academic Affairs, and other campus departments.
- Serve on departmental and college-wide committees.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
- Support Student Life Team initiatives and events.
SPECIALTY AREA FOCUS:
This Resident Director has an emphasis on supporting the Residence Hall students by enhancing college-wide academic support initiatives through strategic academic programming, collaborations and interventions.
Working Conditions & Expectations
- This is a live-on campus position.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday work is required as part of the duty rotation.
- Ability to climb stairs and enter all residential facilities.
- Occasional lifting and transporting of supplies or equipment up to 25 pounds.
