Respiratory Care Program Medical Director (Casual Hire)
Job Description
University of Hawaiʻi, Kapiʻolani Community College, Health Sciences Respiratory Care Program is seeking applications for the Respiratory Care Program Medical Director (Casual Hire). Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaiʻi may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide and ensure direct physician involvement in student education for both clinical and nonclinical settings.
- Serve as a member of the Respiratory Care Program Advisory Committee and attend scheduled meetings.
- Serve as consultant for the Program Director and Director of Clinical Education in such areas as curriculum design, and administrative issues related to meeting program accreditation standards.
- Provide support for students and faculty in facilitating communication with other physicians.
- Assist faculty with instruction related to cardiopulmonary topics and patient case analyses.
- Attend annual program advisory committee meetings.
- Review and provide consultation for curriculum changes/enhancements.
- Provide classroom lectures/Q&A/seminars on various respiratory/cardio/pulmonary topics (Fall/Spring semesters).
Minimum Qualifications:
The MD must be a licensed physician and Board-certified as recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) in a specialty relevant to respiratory care (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care, standard: 2.11).
Desirable Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Critical care.
- Board certified in either critical care or pulmonary medicine and credentialed at one of the programs clinical affiliates.
- Prior teaching experience in medical or allied health education.
