Right to Information and Privacy Manager

About This Opportunity

Step into a pivotal governance role where your expertise will shape the University’s commitment to transparency, accountability and responsible information management. As the Right to Information and Privacy Manager, you will lead key information access and privacy functions, ensuring compliance with legislation while fostering a culture of openness and trust.

You will oversee right to information applications, administrative access frameworks, and privacy management practices, acting as a key decision-maker on complex and sensitive matters including data breaches, subpoenas and complaints. Your ability to balance legal rigour with practical, stakeholder-focused solutions will be critical.

Working closely with senior leaders, you will influence organisational practices, drive continuous improvement, and build capability through clear guidance and training. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a complex environment while upholding the highest legal and ethical standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the end-to-end management of Right to Information applications, including access and amendment requests, acting as delegated decision-maker in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Oversee the University’s privacy and information access functions, including administrative access schemes, privacy complaints, data breach assessment, and responses to subpoenas and law enforcement requests.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on privacy and information governance matters, including contribution to privacy impact assessments and support for complex, high-risk or sensitive cases.
  • Develop and embed clear processes, training and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen organisational capability and ensure consistent, compliant and customer-focused information practices.

About You

  • Brings strong experience in privacy, right to information, governance or information access within a complex, regulated environment.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of relevant legislation and the ability to apply it confidently to nuanced and sensitive cases.
  • Comfortable making sound, defensible decisions in relation to complex information requests and competing stakeholder interests.
  • Communicates with clarity and authority, with the ability to effectively influence and engage senior leaders and diverse stakeholders.
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capability to interpret complex information and develop practical, risk-aware solutions.
  • Highly organised, with proven ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, discretion and attention to detail.
