Location
This position is located at the Smith County Jail.
This position is in a jail/correctional facility that is open 24
hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts, including holidays,
may be required.

Job Summary
Competent Clinician. Experienced, knowledgeable, skilled, and
competent clinician. Delivers care to patients utilizing the
nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention,
implementation, and evaluation. Effectively interacts with
patients, facility staff and other team members while maintaining
standards of professional nursing.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents the daily
care of assigned patients.
Identifies nursing diagnosis/patient care needs, individualizes
care plan, and revises plan of care as needed.
Document patientĺs current health status and medical
history.
Complete and/or review Admission Data Record as defined by
policy.
Make accurate and ongoing assessment of patientĺs status and
respond appropriately.
Executes physician's orders for all assigned patients;
administers medications and treatments and delivers population
specific competent nursing care in accordance with UTHSCT's
policies, procedures, and standards.
Administer medications according to policy and procedure,
observe and document patientĺs response to pertinent
medications.
Demonstrate accurate and timely documentation according to form
guidelines.
Perform direct patient care, utilizing established procedures,
policies, and standards.
Assist patients with concern and empathy; respect
confidentiality and privacy and communicate with patients in a
courteous and respectful manner.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information
and records at all times.
Assist in the orientation/training of new team members.
Accurately transcribe physician orders according to policy and
procedure.
Required to maintain competency in the patient safety functions
related to their position.
Completion of Annual Mandatory Training, TB testing, and
required licensure and certifications before expiration date.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN
preferred.
- Two (2) years' experience as a registered nurse
preferred.
- A combination of experience and education may be
considered.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Must possess and maintain a current RN license to practice in
Texas.
- Must possess and maintain current BLS certification.
- Must possess and maintain current Satori Alternatives for
Managing Aggression (SAMA) within thirty days of hire.
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and
Competencies
- Bilingual a plus. EMR experience.
- Advanced, specialized nursing skills as appropriate to the
nature of medical activity.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of all protocols and
procedures within the corrections environment.
Clinical Position Requirements
Clinical positions may be required to complete a pre-employment

fulfill the specific demands of the position. Additionally,
