S07 Equipment Operator

- Operates a wide variety of construction equipment and motorized wheeled vehicles including commercial trucks and tractors over 25,000 lbs. to provide utilities, general excavation, and construction maintenance support
- Performs manual labor for general maintenance and landscape construction tasks, including shoveling, paving, catch basin minor repairs, cleaning, tamping, snow removal, and other duties that apply
- Promptly reports unsafe conditions or damage to campus landscape/hardscape, equipment, or facilities
- Subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to handle emergencies, especially snow events
- Subject to shift changes and extended working hours (including nights, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) to meet seasonal work demands
- Subject to working in weather related extremes of heat and cold for extended periods
- May come into contact with sewage and dead animals
- Regular exposure to bees and pollen
- This position is covered by the UAW Collective Bargaining Agreement
- At the end of the probationary period employees will be required to pay union dues per article 1 of the agreement
This is an Endowed, union position within the UAW. The starting pay rate is $27.13/hour.

We require these qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three years? experience in the construction field, and related equipment operation, to include a minimum of one year?s experience working around underground utilities, operating motorized construction and snowplow equipment
- Must have and maintain a valid US driver?s license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (your own) vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites
- CDLB license required or must obtain within 6 months of hire. Must maintain a current DOT physical, pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
You will be a top candidate with our preferred qualifications:
- Associates Degree in Construction Technology desirable
- Formal training in construction technologies, building trades or equipment operation, helpful
- Current CDL license preferred
