A call for tenders is open for 1 Scholarship (Bachelor's Degree), within the scope of the project CARDIMED - Climate Adaptation and Resilience Demonstrated In the MEDiterranean region (HORIZON ID:101112731), under the following conditions:
Scientific area: Biology
Admission requirements:
The candidate will only be admitted if he/she meets all of the following requirements:
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Biology;
- Have knowledge in Portuguese flora, as well as experience in field monitoring and floristic surveys in agroecosystems;
- Have knowledge and experience in the survey and mapping of threatened plant species in the Central Alentejo region;
- Have knowledge in ecological restoration concepts and their applications;
- Have knowledge and experience in seed collection, propagation of native riparian species, and their use in ecological restoration actions;
- Have knowledge and experience in the ecology and control of invasive alien plant species, with particular emphasis on giant reed (Arundo donax);
- Have proven experience in organizing and delivering environmental education activities for the general public, as well as in the production of supporting educational materials;
- Declare to have agility and physical robustness for field work;
- Declare that they live or are willing to live in the Évora region during the scholarship period;
- Declare availability to undertake fieldwork for several consecutive days in the intervention areas;
- Hold a valid Category B driving licence;
- Submission of a Curriculum vitae (which contains all the information necessary to carry out the admission and selection of the candidate) and respective academic/training certificates, all compiled in a single document (pdf).
- Be a native Portuguese speaker and fluent in English;
- Have mediation and process facilitation skills.
As set forth FCT Research Scholarship Regulation No. 950/2019 of December 16, 2019, article 3 and 6, candidates for "BI" (Research Grants) must comply as a rule condition for the award of the scholarship, the effective inclusion in study cycles leading to the attribution of academic degrees or in courses not leading to an academic degree. Courses that do not confer an academic degree correspond to the courses provided for in subparagraph e) of paragraph 3 of article 4 of Decree-Law No. 74/2006 of 24 March and must be developed in a higher education institution in association with at least one I&D unit, including a course plan in one or several research areas of the unit.
Work plan:
The work plan is part of the CARDIMED Project and includes:
- Field survey for monitoring the flora and vegetation within the project's intervention areas;
- Monitor ecological restoration interventions carried out in the intervention areas, in accordance with the indicators defined in Deliverable D2.2;
- Support the implementation and monitoring of Arundo donax control measures;
- Collect propagation material from native riparian species in the Central Alentejo region;
- Map RELAPE plant species within the project's intervention areas;
- Carry out environmental education activities and produce supporting educational materials;
- Support in the execution of reports.
This work plan encompasses the following project tasks:
- Task 2.2: Monitoring the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) defined in the monitoring protocol of Deliverable D2.2 under Work Package 2;
- Task 6.7: Characterization and monitoring of the interventions implemented under DEMO 7 (Central Alentejo).
Applicable legislation and regulations: The granting of the Research Scholarship will be carried out upon the signing of a contract between the University of Évora and the scholarship holder, as set in the template former.fct.pt/apoios/Minuta_Contrato_Bolsa.docx, pursuant to the Research Scholarship Statute (Law No. 40/2004 of August 18 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28) and in accordance with the legislation and Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP in force, regulation nº950/2019 of December 16, 2019: https://files.dre.pt/2s/2019/12/241000000/0009100105.pdf and other applicable rules.
Place of work: The work will be carried out at the Department of Landscape, Environment, and Planning at the School of Science and Technology, University of Évora, and in the project's areas of intervention, under the scientific supervision of Professor Catarina Meireles.
Duration of the scholarship(s): The fellowship will have the duration of 6 months, with a planned start date in October of 2026. The fellowship agreement may be renewed until the end of the end of the project. CARDIMED - Climate Adaptation and Resilience Demonstrated In the MEDiterranean region.
Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to 1090,98€, according to the table of scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM-2026.pdf), payments being made monthly, by check or bank transfer.
Selection methods: The selection will be made based on the Curriculum vitae, with weighted valuation. The evaluation will be based on a scoring system between 4 and 1 points (4= Excellent; 3= Good; 2= Fair; 1= Questionable), assigned to admission requirements 2) to 8) mentioned above and weighted as follows: 2) 20%; 3) 10%; 4) 15%; 5) 20%; 6) 15%; 7) 20%. There may be a face-to-face interview if considered necessary, particularly for tiebreaker.

Advertising/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published, through a list ordered by final grade obtained, posted in a visible and public place in the Department of Landscape, Environment and Planning (School of Science and Technology - University of Évora), with the approved candidate being notified through e-mail. Under the terms of the right of prior hearing of interested parties, the Final Classification project will be announced by any written means to all interested parties. After communicating the provisional list of evaluation results, candidates have a period of 10 working days to, if they wish, make their comments at a prior hearing of interested parties.
Application deadline and submission of applications: The tender is open from 16 to 30 of September of 2026 and the results of the selection will be published by 02 of October of 2026.
For the purposes of application, the evidence may be replaced by a declaration of honor signed by the candidate, but the failure to demonstrate that evidence, in the contracting phase, possession of the required degree on the deadline for application or the non-presentation of proof of enrollment in the study cycle or non-degree course, for scholarships with this component, imply the cancellation of the candidate's application.
Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending an application letter with the following documents: Curriculum Vitae, certificate of qualifications, motivation letter with a declaration of compliance with all the admission criteria indicated in the notice and other supporting documents considered relevant.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require registration by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16 and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th.
