Offer Description
Project Manager announces a competition for a Scholarship grantee/Student/PhD student position in the NCN SONATA-19 project (2023/51/D/NZ7/02596) titled "One Step to Game Changer": Combined Antimicrobial Therapy Based on AI and Nanotechnology to Combat Challenging Diabetes Foot Infections. The project is being carried out by the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Krakow Institute of Technology (Project Leader: Dr. Barbara Pucelik) in consortium with Sano - Centre for Computational Personalized Medicine.

Employment Conditions:
The involvement in the project will be based on a scholarship agreement for a period of 12 months.
Planned start date: 14.09.2026
Place of work: Łukasiewicz Research Network – Krakow Institute of Technology.
A scientific scholarship of PLN 3000 per month will be paid in accordance with the rules outlined in the NCN Regulations on Awarding Scientific Scholarships in Research Projects Funded by the National Science Centre (Annex to NCN Council Resolution No. 25/2019 of March 14, 2019).
Tasks:
The person selected for the position of Scholarship Holder / Master’s Student / PhD Student will be involved in project work in nanotechnology, bionanotechnology, chemistry and materials engineering. The main responsibilities will include:
- participating in research on the synthesis and development of nanomaterials with potential antimicrobial activity;
- preparing samples for physicochemical, structural and biological analyses;
- characterising the obtained nanomaterials using analytical techniques such as UV-Vis spectroscopy, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and dynamic light scattering (DLS);
- participating in bionanotechnology studies assessing interactions of nanomaterials with cells, microorganisms and biologically active molecules;
- participating in the development and use of in vitro biological models, including 2D and 3D cell models, to assess the activity, biocompatibility and accumulation of nanomaterials;
- participating in interdisciplinary research conducted by the project team;
- analysing and interpreting results obtained during experiments;
- maintaining laboratory documentation and preparing reports and summaries of results;
- collaborating with the academic supervisor, postdoctoral researchers and other members of the research team;
- contributing to scientific publications and presenting results during team meetings, seminars, conferences and other scientific events;
- using the obtained results in the preparation of a Master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation.

Skills/Qualifications
- be enrolled in a second-cycle (Master’s) programme, doctoral studies or a doctoral school in nanotechnology, chemistry, materials engineering, bionanotechnology or a related field of exact or natural sciences;
- demonstrate an interest in nanotechnology, nanomaterial synthesis and methods for their characterisation;
- have basic knowledge of chemistry, physical chemistry, nanotechnology, bionanotechnology or materials engineering;
- have experience in the synthesis, modification or functionalisation of nanomaterials; experience in producing nanomaterials with biological activity will be an additional asset;
- be familiar with, or willing to learn, analytical techniques such as UV-Vis spectroscopy, HPLC and dynamic light scattering (DLS);
- be able to analyse, interpret and clearly present research results;
- have a command of English sufficient to use specialist English-language literature, prepare reports and present research results;
- be able to use basic software for data analysis and documentation, such as MS Office, Origin and GraphPad Prism;
- demonstrate accuracy, reliability and attention to the quality of experiments and laboratory documentation;
- have very good organisational and communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary research team;
- be motivated to develop scientifically, gain practical experience and prepare a Master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation.
Specific Requirements
Additional assets:
- knowledge or experience in bionanotechnology, biomaterials and the study of interactions between nanomaterials and biological systems;
- experience in cell culture and in developing in vitro biological models, including 2D and 3D models, spheroids or other tissue models;
- knowledge of methods for assessing biocompatibility, cytotoxicity, penetration and accumulation of nanomaterials in cells and 3D models.

Selection process
The application should include:
- a copy of the second-cycle (Master’s) degree diploma and/or a certificate confirming the second-cycle (Master’s) student status. In the case of PhD students, an additional certificate confirming the status of the doctoral student/participant in the doctoral school is required,
- a curriculum vitae (CV) highlighting previous scientific activities (participation in workshops, research projects, authorship/co-authorship of scientific articles, participation in conferences, internships, competitions, awards, contributions to the academic community, membership in scientific circles, etc.),
- a motivation letter,
