About The Kirby Institute:

The Kirby Institute is a world-leading health research institute at UNSW Sydney. We work to eliminate infectious diseases, globally. Our specialisation is in developing health solutions for the most at-risk communities. Putting communities at the heart of our research, we develop tests, treatments, cures and prevention strategies that have the greatest chance of success.

Why Your Role Matters:

As a Post-doctoral Fellow, you will be responsible for detection techniques mainly for multiple neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and other infectious diseases. The primary function of this position is to conduct laboratory work to support research projects aiming to assess the burden of NTDs in endemic countries or the impact of NTD control strategies. Examples include conducting multi-bead serological assays (using the Magpix technology) on dried blood spots to determine antibody levels against a variety of infectious diseases including NTDs and other infectious diseases; and developing and performing quantitative molecular techniques for the diagnosis of soil-transmitted helminths, trachoma and yaws using stools, ocular and skin swabs respectively. Additional responsibilities include contributing to epidemiological studies to collect samples to be analysed in the laboratory.

The role of Post-doctoral Fellow reports to the Professor and a second Professor for all laboratory related work, and has no direct reports
