[School of Natural Sciences PhD Scholarships] Heterogenous quantum-dot–rubidium interfaces: photon generation, storage and conversion for quantum networks

Closes:

Salary: £21,805 per year

48

About the Project

Long-distance quantum communication is limited by photon loss in optical fibre. Heterogeneous quantum repeaters that combine deterministic III–V quantum-dot (QD) sources with room-temperature alkali-vapour memories offer a practical route to high-rate, fibre-compatible networks (Zajac et al., arXiv:[contact details available in the full listing]). This architecture underpinned Dr Joanna Zajac's U.S. Department of Energy Early Career Research Award, and this PhD is a direct continuation of that programme.
