About this position

 

Southern Wesleyan University's (SWU) School of Education and Music is seeking to build a pool of qualified adjunct faculty to teach in its undergraduate education Physical Education program. Adjunct faculty are hired on an as needed basis. Projected hiring date is Fall 2024. This position is located on SWU's main campus in the city of Central, South Carolina. 

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The School of Education and Music provides academic study and training to students seeking teaching careers in the field of public, private, or Christian education. Based on its conceptual framework, the School of Education has adopted the theme statement, “Educators who demonstrate scholarship within a Christian ethic of care.” The teacher education programs at Southern Wesleyan University are fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

To be considered for employment, applicants must complete an application for employment and provide written responses giving evidence of a Christian testimony and how faith and learning are integrated into the applicant's teaching.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

  1. Teaching undergraduate students in the field of physical education.
  2. Provide students with pedagogical skills to instruct students in grades k-12.
  3. Implementing lectures, discussions, and assignments.
  4. Grading assigned papers, quizzes, and exams.
  5. Assessing grades for students based on participation, performance in class, assignments, and examinations.
  6. Reporting student learning outcomes, class reviews, and analyzing student data.
  7. Advising students on how to be successful in class.
  8. Staying updated on innovations and changes within their course field.

 

About our ideal candidate

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education. Minimum requirement is a Master’s Degree in Physical Education; a doctorate is preferred.
  2. Teaching Experience. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years experience teaching in grades k5-12. Higher education teaching experience is preferable, but not required.
  3. Face-to-face Requirements. The ability to serve as an on campus face-to-face instructor.
  4. Technology. The ideal candidate will be comfortable and familiar with the use of technology within the academic environment including learning management systems.
  5. Mission and Lifestyle Expectations. The university is a Christian liberal arts institution in the Wesleyan-Holiness theological tradition. In light of SWU’s unapologetically Christ-centered mission, all employees are expected to embrace the university’s Statement of Faith, respect its Wesleyan heritage, and adhere to its lifestyle expectations.
  6. Physical/Environmental Requirements. Visual acuity necessary to do editorial work, proof documents, and manage files. Teaching in a face-to-face format requires the adjunct to be flexible, available and responsiveness to the needs of his/her online students.
  7. Pre-employment Screening. Employment is contingent on the completion a criminal background screening.
