Scientific Officer/Senior Scientific Officer, Food Science & Technology, 12 months contract, renewable

Job Description

Job Purpose

The Scientific Officer supports teaching laboratory classes, as well as all general research laboratories and core facilities with their operational needs, for example, in the areas of experiment trials and optimization, managing lab supplies, safety documentation, waste disposal, equipment maintenance and user training.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. To conduct experiment trials, optimization, and develop new experiments for lab classes
  2. Manage communication and administrative needs for lab supplies, safety and general lab operation
  3. Assist in student research needs and projects such as New Product Development projects, undergraduates and postgraduates research etc.
  4. Assist in Safety documentation, chemical and lab supplies inventory management, waste disposal etc.
  5. Assist in Facilities management, equipment SOPs and develop applications guides.
  6. To pick up equipment operation and analytical skills, and subsequently to be able to conduct user training, and provide sample analysis service.
  7. Assist in procurement and goods receipt.
  8. Assist in all Department events and ad hoc activities whenever needed

Qualifications

  1. A Bachelor (Honors) Degree in Food Science and Technology or in a relevant field.
  2. Effective oral and written communication skills
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and IT savvy
  4. Passionate about laboratories operation and strong interest in analytical and research support work
