Scientific Software Lead – Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) developer
Job Summary
SRON Space Research Organisation Netherlands is seeking a Scientific Software Lead to advance capabilities in processing and managing data from Earth observation satellites. The role involves leading the development of a generic Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) for missions like SPEXone and TANGO, focusing on data acquisition, processing, dissemination, archiving, in-flight calibration, data quality monitoring, and validation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of a generic PDGS for Earth Observation missions, tailored for specific missions such as TANGO.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scientists, engineers, and external partners, to meet mission requirements.
- Oversee the integration of data processing algorithms and orchestration of dataflow.
- Ensure the system’s scalability and adaptability for various missions.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and best practices in data management and security.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of scientists.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide regular updates on project progress.
- Coordinate documentation and reporting on PDGS development and functioning to external customers and users.
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates must have a master’s or Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Required skills include a strong understanding of data processing algorithms and software development, excellent project management and leadership skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary and international team. Experience in developing ground segment systems for space missions, preferably in Earth Observation, is an asset. Proficiency in written and oral English is essential, with the capability to work independently and in a team.
What the Employer Offers
A full-time position with a fixed-term contract of 2 years, with an option for indefinite duration. Salary ranges from €5,661 to €7,289 per month based on education and experience.
