A full time Scientific Writer & Research Development Specialist position is available in the UC Cancer Center at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. This position will provide high-level writing, editing, project coordination, and analytical support for cancer-focused research funding initiatives and Cancer Center strategic priorities. This position supports faculty investigators in the development of competitive grant proposals, contributes to the preparation and management of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and related reports, and assists with strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting activities
Essential Functions
- Provide writing, editing, and proposal development support for faculty pursuing cancer-focused research funding from federal agencies, foundations, and other sponsors.
- Assist investigators in developing grant application components, including project narratives, research strategies, executive summaries, bio sketches, and supporting documentation.
- Review and edit proposals to ensure clarity, consistency, accuracy, and compliance with sponsor requirements and submission guidelines.
- Collaborate with faculty and research teams to synthesize complex scientific content into clear, compelling, and competitive proposals.
- Coordinate proposal development activities and timelines to support timely submission of high-quality grant applications.
- Serve as a key contributor to the writing, editing, graphic development and assembly of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) application and required annual and intermittent progress reports.
- Support preparation of annual progress reports, competitive renewals, and other required reports associated with NCI Cancer Center designation.
- Ensure grant narratives align with National Cancer Institute (NCI) guidance, review criteria, and merit descriptors.
- Maintain consistency, accuracy, and quality across CCSG sections and supporting materials.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across programs, cores, and partner institutions to ensure alignment and timely completion of writing and reporting efforts.
- Support Cancer Center leadership, Administrative Core staff, and program leaders in maintaining high-quality, submission-ready grant materials.

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience
- Five (5) years of relevant work experience in grant writing or research development, preferably in an academic medical center, cancer center, or research-intensive environment
- Demonstrated experience developing and editing complex grant proposals, including federal applications and preferrable with the Cancer Center Support Grant application
- Direct experience supporting or contributing to large, multi-component grants (e.g., program project grants, center grants, or CCSG preferred)
- Proven ability to translate complex scientific or clinical concepts into clear, compelling narratives for varied audiences, including reviewers
- Experience collaborating with faculty investigators, leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to develop proposal content and supporting materials
- Experience ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines and submission requirements, including formatting, consistency, and responsiveness to review criteria
- Strong background in grant reporting and progress reports, including synthesizing data, metrics, and outcomes for funders
