SCIENTIST I
Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Molecular & Cellular Pathology, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Scientist I to join their team.
General Responsibilities
- To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in a particular field of specialization.
- To plan, coordinate and conduct research.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and execute Drosophila- and organoid-based experiments to address key biological questions related to cardiac, skeletal muscle, and neuronal research projects.
- Design experimental strategies, analyze and interpret data, and troubleshoot technical challenges to ensure successful project progression.
- Generate high-quality preliminary and published data to support NIH and other external grant applications.
- Prepare manuscripts, research reports, figures, and presentations for scientific publications, conferences, and funding submissions.
- Coordinate and collaborate with laboratory members to advance multiple ongoing projects toward scientific publication and extramural funding.
- Contribute to the development of new research directions, experimental methodologies, and collaborative initiatives within the laboratory.
- Maintain accurate experimental records and ensure compliance with institutional and research regulations.
- Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in supervising graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research staff, and visiting researchers in relevant areas of expertise.
- Provide training and technical guidance in Drosophila models, organoid systems, molecular biology techniques, imaging, and data analysis.
- Mentor junior researchers in experimental design, troubleshooting, data interpretation, and scientific writing.
- Support the onboarding and integration of new laboratory personnel by providing instruction on laboratory procedures, protocols, and safety practices.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among laboratory members to ensure timely progress of research goals and project milestones.
- Help monitor project timelines, research productivity, and manuscript/grant preparation efforts across the laboratory.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR M.D. and Master's degree. OR Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
- PhD in Bioengineering or Biomedical science
- The candidate should have understanding on multiple areas including cardiac, skeletal, neuronal and metabolic, across the species including Drosophila, primary cell line, 3D cell culture and organoids.
- Punctuality and organization skill at the highest level.
- Should have strong skill of data analyses and interpretation across the species.
