Scientist (postdoc) in Earth Science
Job Summary: As a post-doctoral scientist, you will process data from the Japanese satellite GOSAT-2 to continue producing data products for concentrations of greenhouse gases CO2 and CH4 under the European Union Copernicus programme. You will also develop software for analyzing data from the new GOSAT-GW satellite mission to establish operational data products, exploring synergies with other missions like TANGO.
Responsibilities:
- Operational data processing of GOSAT-2 data in the context of Copernicus programme projects.
- Investigating ways to improve current GOSAT-2 data products.
- Establishing a software framework for processing data from GOSAT-GW.
- Analyzing radiance observations using RemoTeC software for atmospheric remote sensing of CH4 and CO2, including detailed quality analysis.
- Presenting results to project teams, external colleagues, at conferences, and in peer-reviewed journals.
- A work stay at Japanese partner institutes is foreseen.
Qualifications and Requirements: Candidates must have a PhD in atmospheric physics, computer science, or a similar field. Required skills include very good programming in Python and/or C++/Fortran, with experience in interfaces between Python and Fortran as an asset. Experience in machine learning is highly valuable. Good English language skills (speaking and writing) and the ability to work in a team or independently are essential.
What the Employer Offers: This is a full-time position for 2 years, potentially extendable by another 2 years based on external funding. Salary is according to NWO-I salary scale 10, up to €5,486 gross per month.
