Position Summary
The Quality Gage Technician is responsible for the day-to-day operation of Acme’s gage room and for ensuring that production has the calibrated, functioning measurement tools it needs — when it needs them. This role is the backbone of Acme’s measurement system: if a gage is out of calibration, late to the floor, or not functioning properly, production and quality both suffer.
The right person is detail-oriented, methodical, and takes genuine pride in the accuracy and reliability of the tools they manage. This role works directly with Quality, Engineering, and production teams across both shifts and is a critical part of Acme’s ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D quality management system.
Essential Responsibilities Working the Second Shift from 3:00 PM through 11:00 PM
Gage Room Operations & Issuance
- Maintain the gage room in a clean, organized, and controlled condition at all times
- Issue gages, fixtures, and measurement tools to production personnel ahead of scheduled job needs
- Track gage location, assignment, and return using the calibration management system or equivalent log
- Coordinate with production supervisors and setup machinists to anticipate gage needs by shift and job
- Receive returned gages, inspect for damage or wear, and process for calibration or repair as appropriate
Gage Calibration
- Perform in-house calibration of standard measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, height gages, thread gages, dial indicators, bore gages, and surface plates
- Maintain calibration records in accordance with Acme’s QMS requirements and ISO 9001:2015 / AS9100D standards
- Manage calibration due dates and recall out-of-service or overdue gages from the floor in a timely manner
- Coordinate with approved external calibration laboratories for tools requiring third-party calibration
- Label, tag, and document calibrated tools with calibration status, date, and next due date
- Investigate out-of-tolerance findings and initiate nonconformance documentation when required
Gage Maintenance & Repair
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of gages and measurement equipment to ensure proper function
- Identify gages requiring repair and coordinate with the Quality Director on disposition (repair, replace, or remove from service)
- Maintain an accurate inventory of gages in service, in calibration, under repair, and retired
Print Reading & Measurement Support
- Read engineering drawings and apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to identify required measurement tools and inspection methods
- Support setup machinists and operators in selecting the correct gage for a given feature and tolerance
- Assist Quality with in-process dimensional verification when workload and priority require
- Support first article inspection (FAI) and in-process inspection activity as directed by the Quality Director
Quality Management System
- Support Acme’s QMS by maintaining calibration documentation, records, and traceability in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D requirements
- Participate in internal audits related to measurement system and calibration as needed
- Follow all controlled document and records management requirements for calibration data
- Identify and communicate quality or process concerns to the Quality Director
