Position Overview
The Faculty of Business and Law is dedicated to being at the forefront of teaching, learning, creating and social development and fostering cutting-edge research and discovery. The Deakin Business School places high emphasis on research that makes a difference and is solution-led. They work closely with industry partners and the government to put findings into practice.
The Senior lecturer in the Deakin Gift City campus, for this program, will lead unit and course teaching teams in UG and/or PG programs to improve the student learning experience and outcomes. The position will lead growing, increasingly productive, high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs. The Senior Lecturer will engage in and increasingly develop and lead academic or other collaborations that enable novel and high-quality teaching, research or creative activities in the Information Systems and Business Analytics-discipline area.
Accountabilities
Education and Employability
- Lead unit and course teaching teams and work collaboratively with other teaching teams in the faculty to develop effective unit/courses curricula and learning materials (including through course leadership roles). Lead review of units and courses and implement refinements.
- Integrate industry, clinical and/or research practice into unit/course design to improve student learning experiences, success, engagement and resources.
- Lead the development and/or adoption of new innovation in curriculum design within a course and deliver learner-centric, research-informed teaching practices across different levels / modes of delivery.
- Design collaborative learning opportunities at the course level. Support diverse learners by designing accessible and inclusive unit and course material and practices.
- Develop effective assessment tasks and rubrics at unit and course level. Provide clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to learners to demonstrate learning outcomes. Lead moderation of assessment tasks at course level and adapt practices to improve learning outcomes.
- Provide academic support to students within units and courses and work collaboratively to improve student support services to optimise student outcomes.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and educational excellence within the discipline. Build teaching and learning capability and effective unit and course teaching teams related to discipline or pedagogy and support the professional development of other academics. Conduct mentoring of colleagues to help improve their teaching practices. Integrate of new pedagogical research across all aspects of education and collaborate with teams to support efforts to secure resources to fund pedagogical research opportunities. Make significant advances in knowledge within their fields/areas of teaching, scholarship and pedagogical research activity.
- Make a significant contribution to pedagogy research projects and demonstrate a disciplinary reputation in teaching scholarship and pedagogical research.
Research and Innovation
- Make significant contribution to seeking funding for research and creative activities, including applications for external competitive funding, external funding for commercialization and translation activities and other funding demonstrating sustained efforts.
- Demonstrate sustained national and building international reputation, as emerging world leader, based on significant and growing focused body of work, recognised quality, excellence and impact with a sustained and growing track record of timely delivery of outcomes for industry partners.
- Develop and increasingly lead intra- and inter-disciplinary research collaborations, to enable major breakthroughs in knowledge and understanding and solutions to complex problems.
- Develop and increasingly leads industry partnerships and collaborations to enable major breakthroughs, innovative solutions for future translation into real world impact.
- Develop and lead innovation and translation into policies, frameworks, strategy, generation of products, services, new ways of operating, priority setting and or other innovations with positive impact, with national recognition. Demonstrate timely and sustained delivery of commercialisation and translation outcomes.
- Recruit and supervise HDR students with timely completions and production and high-quality outcomes.
- Provide effective mentoring to HDR students and ECRs to support professional and career development and employability. Develop and implement initiatives that ensure widespread adoption of culture of research excellence, innovation and impact and support industry partnerships that provide HDRs and ECRs with industry experience.
- Communicates outputs to discipline(s), other sectors and the community, including nationally and increasingly internationally.
University Citizenship and Engagement
- Lead the implementation of citizenship activities and effectiveness as influence/champion at local/ university level. Represent the university at academic, professional and civic forums.
- Contribute to the development of citizenship activities and effectiveness at university level.
- Lead the implementation of specific aspects of the strategic agenda through faculty or school committees.
- Contribute to the development of community engagement activities at university level and lead the implementation of the University’s community engagement agenda and activities.
Selection
- PhD in Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a closely related discipline
- Minimum three years of full-time teaching experience, post PhD in at least three of the following areas: business analytics; information systems; artificial intelligence for business; machine learning; data science; cyber security management
- Expertise in at least two of the following areas of research specialisation within the Department: information systems; business analytics; business analytics and decision-making; machine learning; digital innovation, transformation and disruption; digitally-enabled globalisation; digital entrepreneurship; IT and business value; digital health; artificial intelligence and the future of work
- Nationally and internationally recognised research reputation underpinned by publications in quality journals such as the FT50 list, ABDC A* journals, AIS Basket journals and the UTD journal list
- Success in obtaining external research grants
- Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including innovative curriculum design and research supervision
- Demonstrated capacity and passion for leadership of teaching, research and/or administration
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
- Positive engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national standing of the discipline.
