Job Description
The Student Affairs department at the UMKC School of Medicine is seeking an experienced Senior Academic Advisor (Senior Education Team Coordinator). The selected candidate will provide a high level of initiative, organization, detail, and student service while providing high-quality work.
- Advise approximately 120 students in an intense, year-round, medical school curriculum during the first and second year in the program.
- Provide both academic and personal counseling to students and connect students with resources when appropriate
- Work in partnership with Student Affairs staff and leadership and faculty, Councils and other departments within the School of Medicine regarding student concerns and curriculum
- Have high-level knowledge and understanding of School of Medicine and UMKC policy and be able to effectively explain that policy to students and faculty
- Monitor course progression, enrollment accuracy, and other data-related tasks
- Assist with coordinating class meetings and yearly events and trainings for students within the school
- Oversee staff training, plan staff development endeavors, and ensure services are consistent among staff
- Serve as supervisor to the year 1&2 academic advisor
- Provide senior leadership to the year 1&2 office on behalf of the Associate and Assistant Deans of Student Affairs
- Other duties as assigned, both scheduled and ad-hoc, as pertinent to department-wide Student Affairs tasks and goals
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Education, or related field preferred. 3 years or more of experience working within higher education administration is preferred. Ability to keyboard proficiently and comfortability in working within multiple data systems is necessary. Must be organized, detail-oriented, reliable, student-centered, and approachable. Previous experience supervising and coaching staff
Anticipated Hiring Range
$50,000 - $56,000 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
