Position Highlights

The Senior Coordinator for Community Engagement and Partnerships leads strategic outreach, pathway development, and relationship-building efforts that advance the College of Medicine - Tucson's mission to expand access to healthcare careers. This position provides high-level leadership in designing and evaluating high-impact programs, supervising staff and students, and cultivating long-term partnerships with Tribal nations, educational institutions, and local, state, and national shareholders. The individual in this position serves as partner to leadership and plays a key role in ensuring that institutional initiatives remain responsive, engaging, and community-informed.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of outreach and career exposure programs including Pathways to Success, Future Leaders in Medicine Summit, MedExploration, Rising Healers, and community-based initiatives in Indigenous communities.
  • Provide supervision and coaching to professional staff, student employees, and volunteers.
  • Bring expertise in educational access and program design to build sustainable, high-impact programs that reflect best practices and institutional values. Develop original models and workflows when standard approaches are insufficient, demonstrating mastery in program leadership.
  • Establish, strengthen, and steward long-term relationships with Tribal nations, community partners, local organizations, and K-12 institutions.
  • Represent The College of Medicine-Tucson alongside the Vice Dean and Director in cross-campus and statewide initiatives, such as the UA Community Engagement Working Group. Serve as liaison between community shareholders and college leadership.
  • Alongside leadership, exercise creativity and innovation to build partnerships where no established framework exists, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and community goals.
  • Manage and expand student mentorship initiatives such as the Pop-In Mentoring Program, building systems that support meaningful connections between medical students and mentees that respect individual backgrounds and experiences.
  • Guide medical student leaders and affinity groups in the creation and execution of mentorship and outreach efforts.
  • Facilitate travel funding and manage logistical coordination for visiting medical students participating in College of Medicine-Tucson rotations, ensuring a seamless experience aligned with institutional standards.
  • Lead the development and application of innovative evaluation tools, both qualitative and quantitative, to assess program outcomes, inform strategy, and guide continuous improvement. Collaborate with the College of Medicine-Tucson Admissions Office and well as other Administrative Offices to ensure outreach initiatives are aligned with institutional recruitment goals.
  • Promote College of Medicine-Tucson programs and represent the College at local and national educational fairs and conferences to support pathway development.
  • Address challenges that are often without precedent by designing new evaluative approaches when existing methods do not meet the evolving needs of the institution or communities served. Analyze findings and prepare impact reports and strategic recommendations for executive leadership.
  • Oversee planning and operational execution of major College events including the Graduate Medical Education Open House, Second Look, and high-visibility community forums. Manage multi-department collaborations, supervise event teams, and coordinate budgets and timelines.
  • Serve as a direct supervisor to professional staff within the Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships, providing guidance, oversight, and support to ensure effective execution of both routine responsibilities and strategic initiatives.
  • Apply advanced project management skills to ensure seamless implementation and post-event assessment. Serve as a strategic resource and trusted advisor to the Vice Dean and Director in matters related to institutional engagement and outreach.
  • Serve as a liaison between market organizers, campus departments, and the Office of Community Engagement and Partnerships to support coordination, communication, and internal tabling for COM-T. Assist with day-of-market logistics, including OCEP tabling set up and breakdown, and collaborate with campus facilities to ensure appropriate space use and compliance with university policies. Support outreach and promotional efforts to increase participation among students, staff, faculty, and community members.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with finance, development, IT, and executive leadership.
  • Knowledge of national ranking methodologies (e.g., U.S. News & World Report).
  • Demonstrated expertise in translating complex scientific and clinical content into compelling, audience-centered messaging.
  • Ability to align communications strategy with institutional growth objectives and national visibility goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, finance, development, IT, and clinical stakeholders.
  • Ability to synthesize operational, financial, and marketing data into executive-ready strategic summaries.
  • Strong facilitation skills to lead cross-functional planning sessions and drive consensus across units.
  • Ability to operate independently with limited guidance while influencing institutional direction.
  • Advanced proficiency in Trellis (Salesforce) CRM, including Marketing Cloud, event management modules, audience segmentation, campaign reporting, and analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage CRM systems to support donor communications, event registration, stakeholder engagement, and data-informed marketing decisions.
  • Ability to partner with IT stakeholders to develop dashboard reporting (e.g., Power BI or similar platforms) for real-time performance monitoring.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple high-visibility initiatives simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality control across all public-facing materials.
  • Ability to develop structured workflows, documentation systems, and institutional knowledge archives.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and implement new technologies to improve operational efficiency.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Acrobat) for print publications, graphic design, photo editing, and multimedia content production.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing production of annual reports, executive presentations, and high-impact print and digital collateral.
  • Advanced experience managing and editing websites, including content governance and digital brand alignment.
  • Strong working knowledge of SEO principles, digital engagement metrics, and social media analytics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, public relations, higher education administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, strategic operations, or event leadership.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or project leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated marketing strategies.
  • Experience managing large-scale institutional events or high-visibility programs.
  • Experience developing performance metrics and translating data into executive-ready summaries.
  • Experience within academic medicine, research institutions, or healthcare environments.
  • Experience leading brand repositioning or institutional image strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience in revenue generation through sponsorship, grants, or program development.
  • Experience implementing dashboard reporting tools (e.g., Power BI or equivalent platforms).
  • Experience working directly with executive leadership.
  • Experience overseeing website migrations or large-scale digital platform updates.
  • Master's degree in related field.
