(Senior) Data Officer
About the role
The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine central office’s post of Data Officer (appointed at Grade 4) or Senior Data Officer (appointed at Grade 5) is suitable for someone who has strong applied analytical and data management skills. The grade will be determined by the skills and experience of the post holder. Training and development will be available to meet the Faculty’s requirements for this post and to support the post holder’s career trajectory.
The post combines data expertise with strong communication, organisational, and teamwork skills to support Faculty operations. The post holder will work with data and systems to support the Faculty’s day-to-day operations and longer-term planning, working closely with the Data Manager. The post holder works collaboratively with staff from across the Faculty, and more widely in King’s College London, supporting them by producing analyses and working to improve data quality across several corporate systems and databases. In addition to working with Faculty-wide data, you will carry out a broad range of business operations tasks and projects.
The post holder is required to be solutions-focused, drawing on the data and resources available to support a wide range of the Faculty’s priorities, and have a systematic approach when applying policies and processes, with an outstanding eye for detail.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About You
We are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Minimum level 3 qualification, e.g. A Level or equivalent, in a relevant (numerical, technical, or analytical) subject, plus experience in a relevant post; or evidence of considerable knowledge and skills gained through work experience in a relevant post
- Evidence of an active commitment to ongoing professional development and achievement
- Strong organisational skills, working with colleagues beyond the immediate team, following agreed processes to set deadlines and deliver projects on time
- Highly numerate with intermediate knowledge of several business intelligence tools (including Excel or other software), and understanding of key concepts around data analysis, visualisation, and interpretation. Grade 5 Only: Advanced knowledge of several business intelligence tools (including at least Excel and PowerBI), and experience designing and deploying Power Automate flows or other similar tools
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, conveying complex information to a non-specialist audience through clear and accessible formats using data visualisation to improve understanding of the evidence base
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build effective relationships and networks with colleagues at all levels and different backgrounds, advising and influencing stakeholders
- Flexible, self-motivated and enthusiastic approach to work – i) working as part of a team as well as independently with a minimum of supervision, ii) planning and setting priorities to meet deadlines and iii) monitoring progress
- Solutions-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical troubleshooting skills
Desirable criteria
- Holds a degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in an analytical discipline, or a specialized qualification in data analysis
- Proficient with SharePoint site creation, editing, and maintenance, or familiar with other web editing applications
- Knowledge and appreciation of the issues facing the Higher Education, healthcare or not-for-profit sector
- Knowledge of GDPR and best practice required to comply with the legislation
- Experience of servicing committees at high standard
