Senior Director, Planning, Design, and Construction

Job Description Summary:

The Senior Director, Planning, Design and Construction provides executive-level leadership, strategic direction, and technical oversight for the planning, design, entitlement, construction, and delivery of major capital improvement projects at Prince George's Community College (PGCC). This position ensures that all capital projects align with the College's master plan, support academic and operational priorities, and comply with state and local regulations, COMAR requirements, and funding guidelines. The Senior Director serves as the College's primary point of contact for major capital efforts, coordinating across internal divisions, external design and construction partners, and state agencies, while providing transparent and timely reporting to senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in architecture, engineering, construction management, real estate development, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in capital project planning, design, and construction management discipline required.
  • Four years of supervisory experience required
  • Experience with real estate transactions, entitlement processes, and land use regulations.
  • Experience managing design and/or engineering professionals
  • Professional license (e.g., PE, RA, CCM, or PMP) desirable.

Job Requirements:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Primarily office-based with periodic site visits to construction and campus facilities.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend meetings related to capital project coordination or community engagement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
