Position Description

The Senior Financial Analyst for Operations FP&A will be responsible for providing analytical, reporting, and financial planning support across multiple Operations units. This position plays a critical role in helping unit leaders understand financial performance, identify trends, and make informed operational and strategic decisions.

The Senior Financial Analyst will support key FP&A activities, including annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and monthly financial monitoring, as well as assist in the development of long-range financial models and reports. Working closely with unit leaders across the Operations portfolio, the Senior Financial Analyst will prepare recurring and ad hoc analyses that provide insight into operational performance, resource utilization, and cost drivers.

The position’s responsibilities include preparing and reviewing financial reports and dashboards, conducting variance analyses, and participating in monthly financial review discussions with unit leadership. The Senior Financial Analyst will also contribute to the preparation of presentations and materials for senior leadership, ensuring data accuracy, clarity, and consistency.

In addition to recurring responsibilities, the Senior Financial Analyst will conduct specialized analyses on topics relevant to Operations units, supporting both short-term management decisions and long-term planning efforts. The role also involves supporting ad hoc financial modeling and data requests, often tied to strategic initiatives, capital planning, or operational improvements.

The Senior Financial Analyst must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, comfort with financial systems and data visualization tools, and the ability to clearly communicate findings to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Required Skills and Abilities

  1. Strong analytical, accounting, financial management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex analysis and make independent decisions.
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software, with the ability to create complex financial reports for tracking, analysis, and communication.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style to address the needs of individuals at all levels, and a strong commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
  4. Ability to work with financial information and multiple financial systems, facilitating meetings, and collaborating effectively with a wide range of individuals.
  5. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and concurrent priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  1. Strong research, analytical and problem solving skills, including but not limited to quantitative and qualitative analysis of internal and external data to support the development and execution of business improvement strategies. Good interpersonal and organization skills with strong attention to detail.
  2. Ability to analyze large data sets; ability to recognize patterns in data, information or events to draw logical conclusions and make recommendations. Demonstrated advanced analytical skills.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present information in a clear and concise manner and to write comprehensive reports.
  4. Advanced skills in using the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, Access, Word, Project, Outlook and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of ERP Systems
  5. Ability to work in diverse, cross-functional teams with limited guidance. Actively solicits differing opinions to ensure understanding of complex issues and acts in a manner that builds and maintains trust. Demonstrated ability to work independently to meet deadlines. Ability to build strong relationships with all business partners and suppliers.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance and six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated application of financial, accounting and economic concepts

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Financial modeling and forecasting: Provides specialized technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance. Organizes information from a variety of sources to establish data banks for use in analyzing and creating future plans and forecasts. Guides and collaborates with all levels of management, both internally and externally, to gather, analyze, summarize, prepare, and present recommendations regarding financial plans, trended future requirements, operating forecasts and/or similar complex financial matters. Researches and evaluates information to resolve issues and/or influence decisions. Conceptualizes, develops and executes multi-variable complex financial models.
  2. Financial Analysis and Reporting: Analyzes and synthesizes information and designs and creates accurate and timely reports. Designs financial reporting to meet the compliance needs of internal and external users. Extracts and consolidates data from multiple sources.
  3. Financial methods and systems: Influences, plans, and designs methods to improve practices, processes and systems. Leads and partners with all levels of internal and external contacts to execute departmental and/or institutional level goals. Provides a high level of service that cultivates and maintains strong working relationships and effectively communicates information; takes ownership and accountability for timeliness, accuracy and relationship management.
  4. Strategic Resource: Translates department finance strategies into goals. Anticipates, identifies, and raises potential financial opportunities, issues, risks, ideas and solutions. Employs judgment and expertise in identifying the appropriate stakeholders to include in consultations, communications, approvals or buy-ins for designing and implementing changes.
  5. Compliance and risk management: Establishes, implements and/or maintains strong internal controls in areas of assigned responsibility to provide reasonable assurance of effective and appropriate resources use, accurate financial information, and adherence to contractual obligations and agreements, policies, procedures, and external regulatory requirements.
  6. Mentors, leads and/or supervises staff.
  7. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance and six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated application of financial, accounting and economic concepts.

Salary Range: $92,000.00 - $146,750.00

Location: 2 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, Connecticut

Work Model: Hybrid
