Why Your Role Matters

The Senior Functional Test Analyst (Projects) leads testing strategy, planning, and quality assurance across student lifecycle systems and integrations. The role supports both major project deliveries and BAU initiatives, ensuring system changes are robust, secure, and aligned with business and compliance requirements.

Working within a collaborative and supportive team, you’ll contribute to high-quality outcomes by providing leadership in test strategy, planning, design, supporting stakeholder engagement during user testing, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

The role reports to the Manager, Student Systems (Projects) and has no direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end testing activities across both projects and BAU initiatives, ensuring high-quality outcomes
  • Plan and execute system, integration, regression, performance, and user acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Partner with stakeholders across business and technology teams to define test objectives and validate requirements
  • Manage defects through their lifecycle, from identification to resolution and reporting
  • Create and maintain clear, reusable test artefacts and documentation
  • Support test environment and data readiness
  • Guide and support business users through UAT, helping them feel confident and set up for success
  • Contribute to release readiness and continuous improvement of testing practices, including automation where appropriate
  • Champion quality across the delivery lifecycle, identifying opportunities to improve processes, tools, and standards; represent testing in key forums

About You

You’re someone who feels engaged with UNSW’s values and mission—a collaborative team player and great communicator who also brings deep expertise in functional testing. You’re comfortable working in complex enterprise environments and enjoy partnering with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You bring:

  • Significant experience leading functional testing activities, ideally within higher education
  • Demonstrated expertise in manual testing practices, with familiarity in modern test automation tools highly regarded
  • A solid understanding of structured testing methodologies (e.g. ISTQB, Agile, DevOps) and test lifecycle practices
  • Experience coordinating UAT and translating business requirements into effective, practical test cases
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • An ability to navigate accessibility, privacy, and compliance considerations within enterprise systems
  • Relevant testing certification (e.g. ISTQB Foundation or Advanced Level)

This is a hybrid role working Monday to Friday. The position is full time permanent. Candidates will need to have valid working rights – this role is not available for sponsorship.
