Senior Grant Accountant
General Description
The Senior Grant Accountant oversees the fiscal records mainly for the grants and contracts of the College and applies critical thinking to the information presented within their scope of responsibility. The position requires preparing accurate and timely financial reports and reimbursement requests for grant financial activity and assists in the preparation of grant proposal budgets. The Senior Grant Accountant maintains an up-to-date schedule which includes financial reporting due dates, funding source and other pertinent grant information.
Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares fiscal reports and reimbursement requests for sponsored programs and ensures the timely submission thereof.
- Accumulates, researches and summarizes detailed account activity as needed and ensures accurate reconciliation of all grant account data to the general ledger.
- Reviews expenditures charged to grants and contracts using budget versus actual reports to ensure they are in accordance with approved budgets and sponsor compliance.
- Maintains a master grant schedule which includes information pertaining to all grants and contracts of the College.
- Assists faculty and staff in the preparation of grant proposal budgets.
- Ensures timely follow-up with respect to outstanding monies due from grantors and communicates with sponsor agencies if necessary.
- Creates, reviews, and/or directs all accounting entries (transactions and journals) related to sponsored programs and restricted funds.
- Communicates information effectively with Program Directors and Federal and State agencies as needed.
- Maintains a centralized depository for all grants and contracts with supporting documentation.
- Prepares the required reports for the timely close-out of grants that are ending.
- Assists in the preparation of the Schedule of Federal Awards and the State Financial Assistance Programs section of the annual audit. Prepares all necessary internal reports to reconcile the restricted accounts of the College to those programs included in the audit report. Provides documentation to the auditors as requested based upon their annual selection process.
- Makes recommendations concerning grant policy and procedures.
- Perform other accounting duties as assigned.
- Reconciles reports with the Financial Aid Department for the financial aid drawdowns.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting required or Bachelor's degree in related field with an equivalent combination of education and work experience to demonstrate core competencies.
Experience
Five-year experience in general accounting preferred. Experience in public accounting, grant accounting and/or experience working in Higher Education helpful.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position's duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled. Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
