(Senior) Health Economist

About the Role

The Health Economics and Policy Research Unit (HEPRU) at the Centre for Evaluation and Methods, Wolfson Institute of Population Health, is looking to recruit a (Senior) Health Economist to contribute/lead to research on the economic aspects of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The focus of this post will be on economic evaluation and decision analytic modelling informed by clinical studies and routine health data to assess the economic value of new interventions and healthcare pathways. The post holder will develop research in one or more disease areas (e.g. cancer, respiratory health, musculoskeletal conditions) supporting/leading research proposal development; conducting health economic studies; and broader methodological and strategic activities.

About You

A post-graduate health economist with an ambition/ aptitude for evaluative data-driven research. Good knowledge of health economics methodology, including economic evaluation and decision analytic modelling, strong analytical skills, and effective team-working and communication skills are essential.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

The Wolfson Institute of Population Health (WIPH) is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to more than 450 staff, 100 PhD students and c500 postgraduate taught students. It harnesses expertise across a wide range of population-based research and education activities and aims to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in population health, primary care and preventive medicine. The Institute is organised into six separate research centres which, though complementary and following the Institute strategic plan, also have Centre-specific objectives and requirements.

The post-holder will work in the Centre for Evaluation and Methods (CEM). CEM is a thriving centre that incorporates collaborative units who work to deliver outstanding research based on their combined and complementary strengths. The Centre comprises four units, including two UKCRC registered clinical trials units (CTUs): Barts CTU and the Pragmatic CTU; the Methodology Research Unit; and the Health Economics and Policy Research Unit. The post-holder will contribute to the work of the Health Economics and Policy Research Unit.
