About the Team:The People and Culture Portfolio provides integrated HR advice and support across all areas of the University. Working closely with our clients, we deliver strategically aligned workforce solutions in areas including change management, diversity and inclusion, organisational development, health and safety, and industrial and employee relations. Our focus is on building organisational capability and enabling VU to deliver on its strategic goals.

This is an opportunity to step into a highly visible, strategic HR role where you will partner with senior leaders across corporate portfolios to shape the future of the organisation. Position Key Duties
- Partner with senior leaders and corporate portfolio executives to design and implement workforce strategies aligned to operational performance and service delivery
- Provide specialist ER/IR advice, managing complex casework, interpreting enterprise agreements and legislation, and supporting dispute resolution in a unionised environment
- Provide expert strategic and operational advice across all people matters, including workforce planning, organisational design, and culture transformation within corporate functions
- Lead and support large-scale organisational change initiatives (e.g. restructures, operating model redesign, service transformation), ensuring effective stakeholder engagement and risk management
- Coach and build capability in people leaders to effectively manage performance, engagement, and development across professional staff cohorts
- Partner with Centres of Excellence (e.g. workplace relations, OD, safety) to deliver cohesive, high-quality HR services to corporate client groups
- Lead HR projects and people initiatives (e.g. engagement surveys, performance frameworks, diversity and inclusion programs) from design through to execution
- Develop and implement contemporary HR policies, frameworks, and practices aligned with legislative requirements and university strategy
- Act as a key conduit between corporate business units and People & Culture, ensuring solutions are practical, fit-for-purpose, and aligned to higher education corporate priorities
Salary: HEP 10 - $142,441 Plus 17% Super
Employment Type: Full Time – 12 Month Fixed Term (Parental Leave Cover)
Hours: 36.75
Location: Footscray Park Campus - 3 days on-site

About You:You’re a seasoned Senior HR Business Partner who builds hands-on partnerships with senior leaders to deliver contemporary people solutions, drive organisational change, and build high-performing, engaged teams.
- Deep expertise in Employee and Industrial Relations, confidently navigating complex ER/IR matters, interpreting legislation, and providing balanced, risk-informed advice to leaders
- Trusted advisor to senior executives, providing strategic and tactical HR guidance across workforce planning, change, and organisational design
- Strong coach and influencer, enabling leaders to build capability, lead through change, and improve team performance
- Experienced in delivering end-to-end people solutions across the employee lifecycle, including talent, development, engagement, and culture
- Proven leader of complex change initiatives and HR projects, ensuring alignment to business strategy and measurable outcomes
- Commercial and analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate business needs into practical HR strategies
- Collaborative partner who builds strong stakeholder relationships and works cross-functionally to deliver integrated People & Culture services
